Sixth Form Community

The Hayesbrook School is a fast paced and exciting place to study; the teachers are excellent, the students are friendly, and you have the opportunity to develop personally as well as academically.  The Sixth Form aims to provide all students with the experience, skills and qualifications needed for the university or career of their choice.

In 2017 41% of all grades were A*, A, or B and an impressive 34% of grades were A* or A. This includes the achievement of those studying applied and technical qualifications, where 92% of grades were Distinction*, Distinction or Merit and the average grading Distinction*. 

Hayesbrook’s Sixth Form will provide an environment where students can achieve their best and where students can learn about responsibility. We encourage the development of leadership skills and a sense of belonging to the Sixth Form and the school.


Curriculum Vision

We think it is important to recognise that post 16 education is a journey, and that every student follows their own individual route or path to reach their particular goal.  Throughout their time studying in the Sixth Form students have access to good class sizes, excellent pastoral support, a broad programme of study and comprehensive university and employment advice and guidance.

As a member of the Hayesbrook Sixth Form you will have the chance to complete work experience and further enrichment opportunities such as the Extended Project, Duke of Edinburgh's Award and FA coaching qualifications. Students in the Hayesbrook Sixth Form also benefit from exceptional cultural and educational opportunities to broaden the mind and examples of visits to oversees environments support this. Current sixth form students have visited Cern, Berlin and Iceland as part of the opportunities associated with their academic A level courses.

Our curriculum offer enhances students’ personal and interpersonal development, with an emphasis on experiential learning.  We encourage our students to be individuals and to take responsibility for their own choices as well as teaching them tolerance and respect towards others. We develop our students to be citizens of the world: To be active, compas­sionate, life­long learners and to develop the confidence to know and understand their own worth and purpose.


Choosing Courses

The details of A Level, vocational and technical courses are available in our prospectus. Although not all possible combinations of subjects can be catered for, we do our best to see that as many combinations of subjects as possible are permitted. We will endeavour to keep you informed of which courses are available throughout the course of the 2017-18 academic year.

We look forward to meeting you to discuss with our teachers the entry requirements for each course and the topics that will be covered. 

Academic A Levels:
We will be delivering the 2 year linear courses with external exams only at the end of Year 13.  Please see the individual course descriptions for details.

BTEC National Extended certificate (Level 3): (run by Edexcel examination board)
Courses will be examined through students producing a portfolio of coursework evidence which is assessed by the teaching staff and externally moderated. There will also be externally assessed units.

BTEC National Diploma (Level 3): (run by Edexcel examination board)
The style of these courses is the same as the BTEC National Extended Certificate but is more in-depth.  The BTEC Diploma (sometimes referred to as a double BTEC) allows students to achieve the equivalent of 2 A levels and is taught over a two year period.

English and Mathematics at GCSE:
If the minimum government standard in GCSE English and/or maths has not been achieved, students will automatically follow a timetabled programme of study in the relevant subject, following a discussion relating to their enrolment in the Sixth Form.
