Year 11 Languages trip to Madrid, Spain: Report
In early October, Miss Chandler and Mr St John took sixteen Year 11 GCSE Spanish students on a study tour to the Spanish capital, Madrid.
The group explored the historical capital, sampled the tapas and put their speaking skills in to practice.
The Year 11 students had this to say about the experience: "Madrid was the trip our class had been waiting for! It gave us a new perspective on the culture and the language, and the class as a whole felt motivated by the fluency of the people. The city was amazing and the Spanish people were vibrant and kind. The freedom we were given just showed the trust the teachers had in us and we felt like independent young individuals. We immersed ourselves in Spanish culture by visiting major attractions, such as the Prado museum and the Reina Sofia and we ordered traditional foods, such as paella, tapas and tortillas, using our Spanish vocabulary. We also took a tour of the infamous Santiago Bernabeu stadium, home to arguably the most successful football team in the world - Real Madrid! Many happy and funny memories were made. Our trip to Madrid was an unforgettable and incredible experience".
Miss Chandler, teacher of Languages and trip leader, added: "The students were fantastic on this trip. They absorbed and relished the Spanish language and culture openly, and were full of enthusiasm. The energy and maturity they exhibited made me proud to teach them and I am optimistic that such an authentic experience will serve them well as they enter the final months of their Spanish GCSE studies."
